On Feb. 24, 2007
LAMRS members journeyed to the Los Angeles Union
Passenger Terminal to
observe the Union Pacific Railroad's presentation of it's "Green
Locomotive Technology". There was a presentation car and five engines on
display. The presentation car had a modern engine simulator that was
available for visitors to test their engineer's skills and graphic displays of the
new technologies. The objective of the new technologies is to reduce
emissions and thus creating less air
pollution. A representative from UP explained each of the technologies and
then gave us a walking tour by the
engines pointing out the modifications that were made on each. This
presentation shows the efforts that modern railroads are making to help
protect the environment. An added treat was the UP's passenger heritage
fleet that was lined up behind the demonstration engines. They looked to
be freshly painted and were absolutely beautiful. Oh for the those good old
days! |
